I'm not made of money, but I'm equally not without any. What can I do with a girl on a first date in the big smoke?

Preferably something fun, but where we can still talk.

Any ideas?

Should have mentioned that she is in this country for a short time, so i assume she has done touristy things like the london eye

Go ice skating at somerset house, I went with my boyfriend it was so great, and we said what a cool place for a first date. It's a bit scary too (in a mild way) so you'll have to hold hands and it will be all exciting like 'ooh! don't fall over'!

Probably more fun if you can't skate than if you can, but still fun if you can.

Go in the evening when it's dark and all the torches are lit. Then walk up the strand to charing cross tube station and go in Gordons wine bar - it's all cosy nooks and crannies and candles, and great wine.

OR go to laserquest

Omigod! So many choices... I don't know what you're into, but check out timeout london guide, throw in the date and see what is going on. Just check with the place itself before you make definite plans cos occasionally it is slightly inaccurate.

There is so much going on, so it might be worth asking if there is anything she wouldnt want to do or anything she hates.

Classic things are usually the best, ie find a nice hidden away bar somewhere or go for dinner:

www.toptable.co.uk has listings for a lot of good restaurants in London, and you can search by location, price, ambience etc.

I just thought of something great.

There is a great whisky bar: I know what you're thinking, I had the same preconceptions that it sounds like a dodgy old place where washed up losers hang out....Wrong! It is a very sleek and trendy cocktail bar that also has lots of whisky. It is quite pricey, but great ambience (voted best whisky bar in the world):

London is so exciting and buzzing: have fun!

The london eye and the south bank. It is really pretty to walk along the bank, past the globe theatre. Nice places to eat or have coffee and the London eye is very romantic and something she won't forget.

How about the London Eye followed by something to eat?

I took my wife to an outdoor play at the Globe Theatre - that was really nice, and as I remember not terribly expensive. Doing something cultural is always good to do on a date... But it really depends on what you and she are into, ande how old you are.
