I had this problem and this is what I did.
I phoned Sky and told them. When they told me there was a £65 call out charge, I told them to cancel everything and that I was for stopping my direct debts and going to another provider. They then told me when an engineer was available and he came and replaced the box.
Don't let them bully you. You are the customer and if they cannot provide you with a decent service , don't think twice about cancelling.
Good luck.

Switch off mains power for more than a minute. Take out card (wipe gently with a clean cloth while its out) the re- insert card and switch on. This is what Sky informed me when I had problem, and it worked. May take a few minutes to re-establish all the channels.
