Downloading via e-mail is going to be slower than downloading from Google directly. If someone e-mails you the program the program still has to travel from the e-mail server over your internet connection to your computer.
Are you still on dailup? DSL is cheap and certainly offered in Daly City. With DSL downloading Google earth should take less than 5 mins.

It will take much longer for you go get it by email or regular mail. Just go to http://earth.google.com and download it from there. It's only 14.3Mb, so it will take 10 seconds on a broadband connection and a few minutes maybe on a dial-up.
