I don't want to get a GED, not that there's anything wrong with it. I'm fine with taking college entrance exams. In my state (Texas) you don't have to get a GED to be recognized as a successful graduate of private education.

I called University of Phoenix, and they require a GED or hs diploma. Does anyone know (from personal experience) of universities (perferrably with online/distance courses) that accept home-schooled students?

Since posing this question, I've learned that MANY colleges accept home-school students, including HARVARD and YALE, noting that a diploma has never been a requirement for entrance.

SAT testing is a requirement.

I added these details, in case others need to know.

I don't have anything against a GED, but I didn't drop out of school, I choose to learn independently, and in a private setting. Prior to homeschooling, I went to one of the best and celebrated highschools in the nation. I don't need a GED to validate my learning, and that's recognized by the great state of Texas, and by many prestigous colleges in the country. So, I have renewed faith.

Thanks everyone for the answers. but to the comment @ 8th graders: all colleges have their requirements for entrance, like the ability to synthesize information. If a 14 yo is advanced enough to do it, more power to them. it's not @ accepting anyone who applies... ppl who apply should be advanced enough to get through the circulum.

I don't know of any university or middle college that does not require a hs diploma or GED. Why don't you want to take the GED? And why didn't you get some sort of diploma for having finished school. All they want is proof that you completed the minimal requirement for furthering your education. If this wasn't the case, I would be going to school with 8th grade kids who dropped out!! It's not to be discriminatory... schools do this to ensure that you have completed the basics. Can you not get some form of proof that you completed the requirements for being home-schooled? I am sure there are laws protecting you. I would contact the school you are interested in attending and go from there. A lot of times their websites won't be that specific about such special cases.

Take it from somebody who fairly exchange right into a drop out. The GED is frowned upon. by using very just about all and sundry. homestead schoolers get actual diplomas. purely because of the fact a state run college would not concern it, would not make it properly worth 'not something'. your loved ones is somewhat misinformed.

Can your parents not draw up a diploma for you?

Generally, colleges and universities do not require a diploma or GED, but SAT or ACT scores.

Athabasca University in Canada has accepted homeschooled students.
