yea is can most computers and laptop 2day are compatable with vista upgrades. just check the label on the CPU to check if it is compatable or download a vista upgrade checker to identfy the correct version of which ur computer and stand.

in addition, the retailer can offer vista upgrade for free, or at a cheeper price if u buy a compaterable computer in xp. always best 2 read the small print and ask installs

Yes you can.

Also, upgrade versions of Windows are full versions of the software, they just look for a couple files to verify that windows is installed. You can and I do install full fresh copies of windows from upgrade CD's.

It is my advice though (for whatever thats worth) to forget about Vista for sometime as it already has a bad track record. Give it six months or more for microsoft to work out the bugs before even considering the program. At this point there is very limited drivers and software that works with the program.

Yes you can, you can only upgrade though. If you ever were to reformat your hard drive you would have to reinstall xp, then upgrade to vista all over again. And its always best to run on a system with a clean install of vista, instead of an upgrade.
