I wonder why it is that a British Citizen (which I am) who lives and works in Canada cannot apply through the Green Card Lottery. It blows my mind!! Here we are standing shoulder to shoulder with the States and they don't want us, but are willing to accept anyone from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran etc. I'm a well educated person who has never sought social assistance and yet the US is not interested in me. Maybe the answer is to immigrate to a third world country and come in that way - how ridiculous is this?

Get someone to sponsor you in a job here and stop trying to win the lottery.

Good question!!! Better still, go to Mexico, cross the border, work in the States for a few years, and gain citizenship through amnesty. I bet you could get a degree from UCLA for free in the mean time while collecting social security and/or welfare on the basis of "depression"!

Hard to imagine the US government was witch hunting for communists 50 years ago!

I guess it is politically correct to "profile" in favor of the perceived "needy" but who will be able to support this burgeoning "needy" class? Displaced manufacturing industry workers working at the Home Depot or Walmart for $9/hour?

You sound like the perfect person to immigrate to the United States. Someone we would be happy to have here. Could you apply for a work visa here or something like that instead of a lottery? Best of luck to you.

I know. My great grandmother is from Canada, I know she got here around the time her city burned down. It's really sad the US has closed it off to educated people. I know some people here that have been here for 20 years on a green card, very educated. Still don't have citizenship. Most are from Canada, Britain, Japan. I was told it's open mostly to Mexicans. Also for citizenship it's open mostly to Mexicans too. I know a lady who has been on the waiting list for 10 yrs for citizenship.

I am sorry to hear that. Maybe if some of the illegals were sent packing we could make room for people trying to enter legally. It sounds as if you would contribute to rather than rob from the American way of life. Good Luck.

The USA not only has a very very poor immigration policy but
we have very very poor control & enforcement of our borders...
This is a duty of all presidents and the last president to live
up to these duties was Dwight Eisenhower...
Japan is a nation with good immigration policies & controls.

I think it is ridiculous. I think that if your educated and have never been in trouble with the law you should be accepted. If you can contribute to the US and respect the US you should be able to apply.
