Been smoking for years. Been addicted. Been on several stop smoking programs. Now I have cancer. Does the Tobacco Settlement prevent me from suing?

There have been cases where people have sued them, but it is clearly an abuse of our court system, no one made you to start smoking in the first place, it was your choice, knowing it was addictive and harmful.

"Last year, representatives of five major tobacco companies and a group of state attorneys general reached an agreement that, if enacted, could dramatically change the ways in which tobacco is marketed, sold, and consumed in the United States. That settlement would impose large payments on the tobacco industry, strengthen regulatory controls, and expand public health initiatives to reduce cigarette smoking."

Don't see how this prevents you. You just need to hire a team of high powered lawyers, doctors, professional witnesses, and be prepared to wait "X" years for a protracted and costly trial.

I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties but I believe in God's healing power....I hope you do as well. Also, I just got off the internet looking for answers because I have been experiencing progressive hoarseness. That is one of the signs of laryngeal cancer. I am a nurse in the er and one of the docs made me promise to get it checked. As I said I was surfing and found an article about suing the tobacco co's and according to this article it is not too late. Look under lawyers and settlements.com or google laryngeal cancer.
I would say good luck but I don't believe in luck....just God's grace...........God Bless You

If you can find an attorney like John Edwards to take your case on a contingency basis, I do not think anything can stop you.
