Interior and Exterior paints have very different chemestries to hold up best in their designated environments. You should never use an interior paint outside or an exterior paint inside, for you will be quite unhappy with the results either way.

Waterbase interior paints are typically made of vinyl acrylic or latex acrylic polymers that bond well to interior surfaces, cure without direct sun exposure, are low in odor, and are best at leveling and hiding brush and roller marks.

Waterbased exterior paints are usually 100% latex acrylics (some cheaper paints are vinyl acrylic) that are very flexable to tolerate temperature changes, tolerate adverse weather conditions, and are highly mold and mildew resistant, due to the fact that there are alot addatives put in to prevent this. Exterior paints also need to be exposed to the sun in order to cure properly.

If an interior paint is applied outside, the weather will cause failure quickly and mold growth is most likely going to happen. If an exterior paint is used inside. The curing process will take months, if not never, to cure. This leads to the awful paint smell lingering for quite a long time, if not permanently.

Exterior paint is designed for the outside and should hold up under harsh summer and winter weather and the abuse these extremes bring on paint.
Exterior will hold up inside or outside, may be water based or oil/enemal; based.

Interior pant is usually not of the same quality as exterior and will not withstand extreme conditions brougth on by rain, heat and cold. Basically it's a cheaper paint in quality but not price(regardless what the clerk tells you.
Most interior paint would soon began tpo chip and crack if used outside.
Interior also may be oil, based or water or enamel based.
Many painters use sheetrock mud mixed with paint for interior ceiling finishes to get the texture they want.

I should of asked that question once and didn't. I paid the price. If you paint interior paint on the exterior of a house or on something like...say a bench...the first time it rains the paint will bubble up and peel away.

Interior paint is usually made of latex and is easier to work with. Exterior paint is usually made of enamel and is harder to paint with but it is more resistant to weather damage. Most interior paints would bubble up and or peal off if they were used outside.

Interior goes inside the house. It has nothing bad for kids or animals if they lick it or eat it. Exterior goes on the outside. Can have bad stuff in it if licked or eaten.
