I have been an artist for 35 years now- believe me the acrylic paint wiped on my paint jeans does not come out! (part of my working costume I suppose!)
Delta Ceramcoat and others carry what is called textile medium which you can add to the paint so it"transforms acrylic paints into washable fabric paints" Works well and you can even wash the sheets or whatever on low and dry on low if you want-my friend that I painted roses on her jeans- turns them inside out and has worn them for 3 yrs no problem. Your other answerer is wrong- they will not run- just kind of wash away maybe if the paint is thick. Use the medium- cheap and GOOD! Have fun!

No, it really won't...unless you use a fabric medium. Its a liquid, sometimes closer to a gel, that you mix with regular acrylic craft type paint, or even acrylic art paint. Once it is dry, most mediums must be washed/dryed in dryer, but then become permanent.
The reason you use it is because it expands the fibers of whatever material you are using, and allows the paint to completely permeate them, instead of just laying on top of them.
Buying a medium isn't necessarily cheaper than buying fabric paint, but it is better. With a medium, you can use any color, or even mix your own colors, rather than having to settle for what colors of "fabric paint" are available. Also, with a medium, you can literally paint on any fabric!

The question is not whether gloss, matte and glazing medium are all the same (which they are not ). Its how to create transparent layers. A glazing medium is your best choice. Just mix through the paint by trial and error testing as you go till you get to a point that has the transparency and pigment strength you need. Some colours as you know are more opaque than others so there are no fixed percentages for mixing. Mediums are not all the same. Their are a lot of smart people out there and i'm sure someone would have spotted we were all being swindled.

Acryllic is a water soluble paint and may fade when the fabric is washed. Why not try it out on a small sample of fabric to test it out?

No, you need fabric paints that won't wash out. Acryllic paint will run - dying the fabric when washed and will fade

If it is dry it will stay. Does acrylic paint stay on your art shirt? Although it can be cleaned up withwater when wet, it does stay when dry.

It will stay colourfast but it will peel off since it is a film of polymer.
