I have been on 20 mg of Adderall a day for the past week and things have been great. My doctor just gave me Wellbutrin XL 150 mg today and I wanted to know what people have experienced with this combo. I am taking it for ADD, Depression and for weightloss. I would be interested to know if they work and if people do drop weight.

I've been on both for the same time and although I didn't really need to, I did lose a little weight. Wellbutrin works wonderfully for me, I've been taking 300 mg for about 8 years, in addition to other meds that have all changed in that time. I had no problem with the combination of the two meds. My son is on 15 mg Adderall (has been on it a while) and we just added 150 mg of Wellbutrin about 2 months ago - the results are quite remarkable. His moods, attitude, and behavior has drastically improved. The combination works very well for him. Taking an antidepressant and a stimulant at the same time is not unusual, just for the record.

I was on Lexapro, a derivative of Prozac (not anymore b/c insurance doesn't cover it all of a sudden), and it did wonders for my depression and anxiety attacks. I have since been put on Citalopram (Celexa), and it has worked just as well. I lost a little bit of weight, but nothing major. The sleepiness did wear off. As far as Adderall, I can't help there - I take Wellbutrin. But I hope my insight helped at least a little. Good luck!

Doesn't it seem a little dangerous to use 2 mind altering chemicals at the same time. If you're already taking a drug for depression and weight loss (Adderall is an amphetamine- speed)- why do you need another antidepressant? I think your body and mind is going to pay the price eventually.

Welbutrin's side effects are: Agitation, anxiety, insomnia, weight loss), headache, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, dizziness. Most of these are transitory, but the weight loss, agitation and insomnia tend to stick around.

Interesting Stuff Your Doctor Probably Won't Tell You: You CAN'T mix Strattera and Wellbutrin because they don't play well together in your brain. They both want to grab the same precursors to activate the reuptake inhibition of norepinephrine. And as it turns out that Wellbutrin does norepinephrine reuptake in its own right adding Strattera might be tweaking the norepinephrine just a bit too much.
