Does it help Depression?

Do you actually have an overactive thyroid. If not, then it would be silly to have it removed. It will not affect depression much but the thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) do have major functions in the body, and you would suffer for it.

If you have a hyperactive thyroid AND a DOCTOR advises removal, there may be a point in doing so. It is actually easier to treat hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism.

No benefits. You will have to be on Synthroid for the rest of your life, not to mention a ton of weight gain issues!! And lack of energy.
