I don't IM people that often, and I would like to know some more shorthand phrases. Could you give me examples of some? The only ones I know are:
brb= be right back
lol= laugh out loud
lmao= laugh my *** off

Therer are plenty more out there, and you can make some up as you get to know your friends better, hope it helps.

AFK=away from cake=means i stepped away from my comp(more extreme form of brb)
roflmao=rolling on the floor laughing my *** off
g2g=got to go
ttyl= talk to you later
bw=Be Well- it's a farewell that took popularity in some chats a few years ago I'm not 1 of those who use it often I prefer a different closing phrase of T/c and BS which means Takecare and Be Safe
