The so called "Assault Weapons Ban" was based on looks. As for full auto or actual "assault rifles" They are legal to own as long as a federal tax stamp is bought for each weapon owned. The tax is $200. Only one crime has ever been commited in the US with a legally owned automatic weapon. Guess what ? The person who commited that crime was a cop.

Kind of silly to ban certain weapons based on looks, appearance and color. a deer rifle will kill just as dead, and the vast majority of weapons kill nobody. I see no reason to ban certain weapons from legal U.S. citizens. Just because it is a sawed off shotgun, it does not mean I am going to the mall and unloading with it, especially because there are better weapons available that could do the same job. The people who commit radical/ stupid crimes will get their hands on weapons regardless of laws, by outlawing it you only punish the citizens. Many places than ban certain firearms do not see a decrease in crime, United States enjoys a lower crime rate on percentage than England which has strict laws concerning firearms.
