I lived with a man for 16 years. His mother kept trying to cause us trouble. She even took my dog and won't give it back. I am older than he, and she told everyone in the family that she was trying to separate us because I was too old for him. She won't give back my dog, and has finally succeeded in separating us. I am experiencing so much emotiona; distress that I cry all the time. I can't seem to stop.

No you can't. If his mother was able to break you up, then he wasn't much of a man. You just pissed away 16 years because you lived with a "boy" tied to his mother...now that's something to be upset about.

Well first, the only one that could answer this question is your attorney. If you are going to "take him to the cleaners", you are going to need one of those anyway, so go get one and while your ex is in the rinse cycle, ask about inflicting pain on his woman. However don't forget, he didn't HAVE to do anything he didn't want to do. Women don't FORCE men to cheat with them. The men do it because they want to. Same goes the other way around. You are just pissed because she got him and you lost him. It always cracks me up when a man cheats on his wife and the wife blames the other woman. Do women really think that men are that mindless and easy to control? Instead of spending so much time, emotions and money trying to pay her back, maybe you need to concentrate on why he was interested in her and lost interest in you to begin with. If you were doing everything right in the relationship, he wouldn't be with her right now. Go figure out where you slipped so that maybe you can keep it from happening again, if you get into another relationship.

This lawsuit would not go too far. You would have to prove damages and you would have to prove that she caused them. You would need to show that your damages have a dollar amount to them. Feeling bad and crying are not enough. You would need to show something psychological that needed treatment or was going to impair you for the rest of your life. To prove the mother-in-law did all the damage would be hard as well. The defense attorney would probably paint you as the person who started everything and the the mother-in-law came to the defense of her son.

I would not recommend suing. It will probably cost you lots of money and you will gain nothing from it. However, if you want a second opinion, start talking to lawyers and see how much it will cost you to go with this and how many are willing to represent you. That will be your real learning experience.

Go to small claims court so that you can either get your dog back or she replace the one that she has. Im sorry things did not work out for you. You will find someone better, at least you have her out of your life.

Have you even called the police about her stealing your dog?

Has HE even bothered standing up to his mom?
