If you want screenshot of your desktop, best option to use printscreen, and then open pain and paste it.
If you want to get the wall paper of your dektop, go to
C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\
You will find a file wallpaper.bmp there.
To browse to the folder you will have to show hidden file and folder.
Go to explorer option to enable that.

Wait do you want a screen shot with all the icons or just the actual background.

If you want just the background then follow these steps (MS Windows):
- right click any open space on your desktop
- select properties
- select the Desktop tab
- the selected file in the list on the bottom right is the name of the picture on your desktop.
- close that window

Its probably in your My Documents folders. But you can hit F3 (the find wizard pops up), type the name of that file in the previous step and Voila! The desktop background.

HTH.
