You can try becoming a Crime Scene or an I.D. Tech. You can collect and transport eveidence as a Crime Scene Tech here in Miami Florida. An I.D. Tech fingerprints and processes those who were arrested. I am in a graduate level Bachelors Course in Miami. I got my Associates in Criminal Justice Administration and am doing my Bachelors in Public Safety and Applied Sciences with a double minor in Crime Scene Investigation and Criminology.
Above all, attend college and get a degree. Also look for volunteer work with a local police department to get your foot in the door.
BTW for that Kaplan College student, South Florida doesnt accept any degrees towards a position in South Florida Police Departments from that school. All of those tech schools aren't the right way to go and many agencies frown upon them.
So dont pick a technical school. You need a good education not one you buy to get the easy way out. Sorry but its true. An investigator, a professor of mine who is also a teacher, and another police officer also told me that.

If the fight with the girlfriend was written as a domestic incident you have NO chance of becoming any sort of law enforcement officer. Drugs within a year is nothing....most agencies want none at all or no more than a few tokes of a joint in high school....and thats if high school was more than 7 years ago. Basically, you are going to have to find another line of work to get into. It would be impossible to articulate that to a government agency. I'm sorry.

Your best bet is to talk to someone within your local law enforcement agency. They can steer you in the right direction. You may be better off to be a police officer on the road & get a degree while doing so, (night school at your local college/university) because you will need that degree to climb the ladder successfully. Many law enforcement agencies will only hire those with a degree, so check it out. I have two sons in law enforcement, so trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Good luck!

Usually the Alphabet soup Federal agencies will accept you only if you have have some background in criminal investigation, and a college degree. You have to get your feet wet, as a rookie police officer if you hope to get anywhere. You don't just **** in and say you want to be a detective, an FBI agent, etc.

Your first step realisticly would be to get at least an associate's or a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. You can get that at most technical schools or universities. Then, it depends on the particular police department whether or not they will require you to be a street cop or not, first. However, any police department will usually require you to go to their Academy for Law Enforcement training. Hope that helps.

detectives dont enforce laws, they investigate crime.
and what are you afraid of, all the detectives you see on TV and movies the character did there time on the beat, thats how you learn who to talk to, and where to go, all the ins ans outs.

You will have to start out on the bottom of the to-tum pole like the rest of us. If this isn't for you, may I recommend Border Patrol.
