I don't really have answer for you, but I wanted to express my sympathy...sorry to hear about your grandpa.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I also have to commend your bravery for sharing such a personal tragedy on such a... lively forum.

Try to think about all the good things you remember about your Grandad instead of about missing him. It'l bring a smile to your face even if it brings a tear to the eye. As for a poem. You know, there are many you could use that might be appropriate, but I think it would be so much better if you spoke from the heart. Your grandad would probably appreciate that more than the most eloquent verse you could ever find.

If you are still keen on the poem though, try looking for something appropriate on these sites. They generally have poems sorted by occasion, so that should help:

I wouldn't presume to suggest a poem though, you knew your grandad, I didn't. You'll know when you come across the right one.

What if you wrote down all of the things you said above and some more. Just what comes to your mind. Maybe something you would want to tell him but never got around to.
And read this instead of a poem. That would be something your Grandfather would appreciate.
As for staying calm: once you are up there and ready to read the poem, remind yourself that he is sitting there in the first row. (Because he is) Focus, concentrate and just start reading. It will go beautifully.

Blessings of Peace. I'm sorry to hear that.

I've heard this one used a few times....it's O.K.

The Final Flight

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've found that peace at the end of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things too I will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My Life's been full, I savoured much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one' touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Or one of these:

A Hopi Prayer by Mary E. Frye (slightly changed)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there.I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet white doves in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there,I did not die.

To Those Whom I Love And Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that I have had so many years

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness
I thankyou for the love each have shown
But now it is time I travelled on alone

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories in your heart

I will not be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you soft and clear

Then, when you must come this way alone
I will greet you with a smile and a
“Welcome Home”

am sorry for ur loss...the same thing happen to me, since my dad wasint really with me and my mom, I looked up to him like a, but when he died I dint have the curage to go to see him be put in the ground so i just stayed home, and now i think i should have gone...so even though u miss him there is no reason to cry because nothing u do can bring him back.
So be strong and go up there and say what u have to say, just get it all out..sorry for ur loss.
