I recently started doing 150 crunches and 150 leg lunges a day, and I was wanting to move on to a cardio workout on the treadmill, but I wasn't for sure that it would even do me any good because im a smoker. I only smoke maybe 6 or 7 cigarettes a day, but I need to know if it will be really bad on my heart to mix the two together!

The cardio will help strengthen your heart, so go for it.

Smoking will cause the blood vessels to narrow and provide less oxygen to your respiratory and circulatory system.

Exercise will cause the blood to flow with more strength, and will help to counteract the effects of the smoking.

It will help balance the effects, and so you should keep it up. You may even get to the point where you enjoy the exercise and the effects of the exercise enough that you will consider cutting down on the cigarettes.

If you enjoy smoking, think about switching to cigars. They take more time, and so you smoke less. They take a commitment of time (an average cigar can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to smoke) and so you don't smoke casually or to kill five minutes. And the taste is much richer and deeper, so you enjoy the taste. And you don't inhale, so the damage to your system is much less.

But certainly, keep up the exercise.

Besides the nicotine addiction, smoking reduces the capacity of your lungs. This means you will get out of breath more quickly than a nonsmoker. Even while smoking there are benefits of cardio training. You just won't see dramatic results, or be able to go as long as you would if you didn't smoke. By all means tho, do the cardio. You will still have benefits.

Smoking obviously is very bad for your health, but if you're a smoker and you regularly do cardio, it will decrease the effects of smoking. Not by much, but any type of cardio can only have positive effects on your heart and health.

Exercise is even more important for you, because your heart can use all the help it can get. You should probably check with your doctor first, just to make sure that you are healthy enough. And start out slowly, maybe a brisk walk or something before you really go all out.

You seem to want to be good to your body, but have no clue about smoking. Smoking is bad for your body, period. Why not just quit and be better off health wise?

No, that's not stupid, keep it up! BTW, it'll be even better if you'll quit smoking. Best of luck to you!
