Black is it's own color and you cannot mix it.
You can mix a color that is very, very dark and can "act" like black in a painting. Try:
Ultramarine blue and Alizarin crimson
Ultramarine blue and Burnt Umber
Viridian green and Alizarin crimson
Prussian blue and Burnt Sienna

Mix equal amounts of a red, blue, and yellow and it will make a black. And yes, black can be made.
For best results, try:
Cadmium Yellow Medium and a cool red and ultramarine.

about equal amounts of ultramarine blue and burnt umber. I teach painting and won't let my students buy black. Trust me, it makes a very nice black.
