Will an F150 do the job?

So im looking to buy a new truck.. ive never owned a truck before but have been around friends with trucks for my whole life.... im also joining the military so i wanted to make an offroad vehicle so when im in the desert or woods around my base ill have something to do....... my question is this is a ford f150 gonna do the job and will it be crucial to get 4x4 to make it really work off road

If you're gonna offroad, a 4x4 is a must for that inclement weather especially. Ford historically has made a good truck with heavy leaf springs, strong motors, etc. The new ones are good too, but they're too expensive and they aren't very good on gas mileage. Dodge, got tons of power, good on gas, but they don't hold their value worth a shxt. I'd have to say that Chevy is the way to go and I'm not a Chevy truck guy. They have plenty of power, great on gas, and they don't look too bad either.

To answer your question...yes an F-150 will do the job, and yes get a 4x4.

EDIT:...Doug K has it...if you can find a '77-'79 Ford they are the bomb!

Yes! Make sure it has a big motor and put big tires on it. F-250 and F-350 are just for more hauling. But if you are not planning on hauling anything real heavy, an F-150 will be fine.

Oh yeah...you absolutely need 4x4 if you are going off road. Pickups have no weight in the back so you will spin your rear tires on anything softer than blacktop.

If you want off road 4x4 is the way to go. Also get a winch on the front. When a 4x4 gets stuck it is stuck. Personally I think fords suck. I would go with a GMC. Have fun.

I love my 78 F-150. It is a 4x4 shortbed stepside. Plenty of power, and great offroad ability. Personally I would stay away from the 'traction-beam' front suspension, but that is just my opinion.

what job do ya wanna do, and with what engine/tranny combo, and from what year vehicle are you asking this job? the f-150 has been the single most popular vehicle line 30 years running, so ford must be doing something properly...

Wet sand with 800 grit sand paper then buff with 1000 grit rubbing compound followed by 1500 grit buffing compound then wash and wax then wax again
