Abortion?
Sex outside marriage?
Stem-cell research?
Divorce?
Homosexuality?

I'm a Christian. I'm not necessarily anti these things (especially divorce and homosexuality as they are things you can't change)and I want to know what the bible tells me about it.

Thanks

My husband had an affair and walked out on me and my 10 week old baby. tell me what part of that I could've changed. Dont ever comment on things that you don't understand. If you havent been there you shouldnt judge - I think you'll find the bible tells you that too.

Regarding homosexuality
1 Corinthians 6:9
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

Regarding divorce
Malachi 2:16
"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.

Regarding stem cell research and abortion - the only thing I could think of is that of Jeremiah 1:5
"Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— that's what I had in mind for you."

I'm not sure about the sex before marriage thing. It's in there - you should ask your pastor.

Hope this helps!

PS - I'm sorry that that happened to you...it happened to my mother too. That is actually something you can't control. I think the person above meant that it is a choice but in this situation, it wasn't yours, it was his. God does look down upon this situation, but raise your child with God and teach him/her the right ways. That is the best God may ask of you. Good luck!

The Bible, as you might imagine, is silent on abortion because they did not have that capability back then. However, there are numerous references to sex outside the marriage, divorce and homosexuality.

Try

Matthew 5:31-32 on divorce
Romans Chapter 1 on homosexuality particularly 24-32
1st Corinthians 7:8-9, but all of chapter 7 on sex outside the marriage

As for stem cell research and abortion, the passages about the gift of life from God are usually the best ones to look at. Again, the technology wasn't there, so there are no specific references.

Edit just to point out that all the Old Testament references really aren't specific to Christianity. I know that's kind of a fine point, but the question is why Christians are against these things.

I think you need to read the Bible and find out for yourself.
I suggest you start with the New Testament.
Consider,
on item #1: Luke 1:39-45
item # 2: I Thessalonians chapter 4
item # 3: The subject is too broad, but would fit into the context of the subject of abortion when a human embryo is involved.
item # 4: Matthew 19:1-12
item # 5:Romans 1:18-32 and I Corinthians 6:9-11

PS: I'm very sorry to hear about your husband's betrayal.
"For I hate divorce" says the Lord (Malachi 2:16),
however, the Scripture clearly takes exception to the situation when it involves unfaithfulness (Matthew 5:31,32)

Abortion/Stem cells-- "Thou shalt not kill"
Divorce -- "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife" "Til death do us part"

How are you suggesting that divorce is something you can't change? Divorce is a CHOICE. If people made better choices going into marriage and then actually tried to make the marriage work rather than just giving up on it, divorces wouldn't happen so often. Divorce is NOTHING like homosexuality. You aren't born with divorce, you are born a homosexual.

If you were going to be "anti" some of these things, divorce, sex before marriage, abortion, and stem cells are all things that we as humans have a CHOICE about. Christianity is telling you to make the "right" choices... you know, be moral.

It fully relies on what the query is. If it calls for the usage of Scripture, I don't have any crisis utilizing it, even though I'm a lot more most probably to make use of it according to a query from a fellow Christian. Usually, I will use it while any individual asks why I think what I think. In this situation, I suppose that it is fully right. And of path, there are the ones questions which ask for a exact Scripture reference. I might seem beautiful foolish answering the ones with charges from Gone With The Wind, now would not I?

Abortion. It is throughout scripture but here is one story. We all know thou shalt not kill, but if you just think it is cells then you think you are not killing.
Job 10:18 Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!(why we he have to give up his soul before he was born, if he didn't have one?)
Lu 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: (this story is just a small one that lets us see that the baby was not made of of cells, it was indeed a soul.)

Sex outside of marrige is found all over the Bible-it is called Fornication
1Co 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

Stem cell research- because they take the cells from aborted babies. Why not use adult stem cells.

Divorce is not a sin. It is just not pleasant. God divorced the nation of Isreal. He hates it, as does anyone else who has been through one.
Isa 50:1 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

Homosexuality is an abomination and the punishment for this sin is death, much more severe than other punishments. Main passage in Romans Chapter 1 but thorughout scripture- Ro 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
verse 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them

Abortion: Exodus 21: 22,23: “And in case men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant woman and her children do come out but no fatal accident occurs, he is to have damages imposed upon him without fail according to what the owner of the woman may lay upon him; and he must give it through the justices. But if a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul" If an unborn child at any stage died, those responsible were considered guilty of murder.

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11): "What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified, but you have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God." Therefore fornication (sex before marriage) adultery (sex outside of marriage) and "men who lie with men" (homosexuality) are all condemned in the bible. Yet it does say that those who have practiced these things, are not doomed to continue. They can stop with help.

Divorce: (Matthew 19:9): "I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.” Divorce is allowed in the bible, but only if one of the mate breaks the marital bond by having sex with someone else.

Stem cell research is so new it is obviously not directly spoken of in the bible. Clearly it is the process by which it is obtained that one must meditate on.

Abortion - Ten Commandments, You shall not murder

Sex outside marriage - Ten Commandments, You shall not commit adultery

Stem-cell research - it's not the research it's where it comes from which. Pluripotent stem cells are isolated from human embryos that are a few days old. Cells from these embryos can be used to create pluripotent stem cell "lines" - So, we're taking these from dead embryos, and it goes back to abortion.

Divorce - Ten Commandments - Thou shall not commit adultery, and you shall not covet your neighbors wife. Since in the church you're married until death do you part, any other sexual partner you have until your original spouse is dead, would be considered adultery.

Homosexuality - "And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.." (KJV; Genesis 2:23-24).

This is what is the foundation for the classical Judaeo-Christian teaching that sexual intercourse is designed for expression solely within the life-long, marital relationship of a man and a woman.

Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

Matthew 5:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These are the things which defile a man:

Matthew 5: 31It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Corinthians 6: 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

When you get married you make a pact with that person.
When you have an abortion its murder.
and the other stuff you have to just get down and read your bible and pray to God to reveal it to you.
