YES, they do! They are pack animals by nature and enjoy each others and humans company. If left alone too long, they get bored and that's where the bad behavior starts. They chew or dig or tear a room apart because they are bored and lonely. They know this will get them in trouble, but even bad attention is better than no attention. Bottom line is if you have a dog, spend lots of time with that dog!

DO YOU GET LONELY?

Of course dogs get lonely. Becomming a pet owner is a big responsibility. Before you do so you might want to make sure that your hours at work/school are ok for getting a pet. Dogs can be very destructive when lonely. That is a way to say "hey I need some attention" So if you are unable to give attention to a pet try a fish, they don't require as much attention! Good luck

Dogs are pack animals, therefore when they are left alone it does have some affect on them. As for how strongly it affects them would depend on the dog's personality and temperament. Some dogs, like some people don't mind being alone as much as others.

You have great information sent to you so I will not repeat any of it just give it THUMBS UP-- But just for the records--put yourself in the paws of a dog left to itself and try and feel what alone is when its near 24-7--looking thru the fence at a world passing you by and barley giving you the time of day--what would you feel being the social creature that you are?? What attitudes would you take on because of the lack of connection??

Dogs do get lonely. They are pack animals, and so it is not natural for them to spend too much time alone. You can think about it in relation to wolves. If a wolf was alone in the woods, he probably wouldn't survive long. He needs his pack in order to survive. Obviously a dog is not going to die if he is left alone in a house all day, but he won't be happy. Dogs who are left alone too often for too long can develop behavior problems.

Sure they get lonely, so when you get home make the most of it.They are very forgiving towards the ones that they love....It doesn't affect them for long, they get use to routine and want to be kept to that routine...Good question, thanks for 2.

i think it does because i have mine for 5 years now and his first 3 years he is the only dog not just in our house but the entire block...now he's over protective and have a severe anxiety...i'm trying to correct that now by socializing him with more people and other dogs but it's very though...he shows a very nervous aggression to others...we will be in training pretty soon to correct his behavior....he is my dog and will never give him up...he's part of our family and we'll just have to deal with him....i am hoping more training sessions will improve his behavior.

I have a doberman and she is highly intelligent. I can tell when she is down. When I have to go out of town she stops eating for a couple of days and sits by the door waiting. My wife tells me she must be my mother in her previous life!
