Ok. So you have an XBox with fiber optic output, but your receiver has fiber optic reserve for CD, correct? Try connecting to it and play a movie. During movie playback, see if it automatically switches to Dolby Pro-Logic or Dolby Digital. If not, see if you can manually enable Dolby Pro-Logic or Dolby Digital.

Dolby Pro-Logic is not true 5.1 (its actually 4.1 because the 2 rear speakers are actually consider one since both carry same info). See if you can manually switch it to DD. If not, then maybe the movie is not encoded in DD. Find a dvd that is DD by checking the cover and play it.

If the dvd is DD encoded, but u still cant swith to DD, then the CD fiber optic input will not process DD. You will have to stick with Pro-Logic which is still better than no surround.

I'm doing this from memory, so bear with me.

1) Hit menu
2) Go to menu "#2: Input Menu"
3) Hit the down arrow until you see (OPT1)
4) Hit the right arrow until it displays DVD or DVD/LD next to (OPT1):
5) Hit menu
6) Exit out of the menu by hitting the menu button again.

And yes, you do need a fiber-optic cable to get Dolby Digital from an X-Box 360.

You can use the coaxal connector for the dvd player if you want.
Just use a standard RCA audio cable. Nothing special.
As far as the optical input, on the front of my Sony reciever, I have to choose standard, fiber or coaxal input for my dvd input.

Using the optical on CD will work fine. There are no special audio settings for DVD.
