She gets terribly constipated every few days. It is painful for her and she cries when she is trying to go. She has a milk allergy so she has been on soy milk since stopping formula. Has any one else had any experience with this? She is going to the dr tomorrow morning but I wondered if any other parents have any ideas.

I was told that bananas would make it worse instead of better and to try apple juice. Which I have and it doesn't seem to help either.

Take her off the soy milk!!! Soy milk has a nasty way of constipating kids, and sometimes adults. Have you tried giving her lots of water? Instead of her drinking the soy milk, or koolaid or whatever, give her water. Also, try watching what she's eating, and this is the lovely part ofthe motherly job, but look at the stool if/when she goes, to see if it looks somewhat normal. Look for anything that shouldn't be there; blood, discoloration, food(yes, like corn lol), things like that.

you could also try pedialyte. It doesn't tast very good to us, but my 2 yo loves it! If you've ever tasted it, it tastes really salty. But not table salt salty. More like baking soda salty! Anyways, it's supposed to help with the constipation. Just give her lots of water today. It should ease her up a little. It probly won't give her the squits, but it won't make her go right away either.

Something else that's safe, is epsom salt. It's a natural laxative, and you can give it to children. Make sure it's a very small dose, and keep a diaper on her, or keep her potty out in the living room! Because once it hits you, it's like you drank a whole bottle of Phillips! lol

Try to find other ways to get it out of her, before you give her an enama. That's wrong on so many levels. If you've tried everything you can think of, and everything that's medically and morally legal(lol only kidding), then you should give her the enama. Because chances are, that's what the doc will say. So instead of making you're daughter endure that nastiness, try some natural laxatives and/or some good old fashioned home remedies. Look them up online. You'll get lots of links in the searches.

Good luck to you!!

My daughter has had problems w/ constipation since we took her off formula.
Recently what seems to be working is feeding her the right types of food and water.. lots of liquid to get things moving so to speak.
We buy 'Fruit to Go' .. They're a dried fruit bar... she calls them yum yums... then another type of fruit bar which has veggies in it.. It's called 'Fruit Source by sun-rype' and has 3 servings of fruit and veggies in one bar.
I also feed my daughter bran flakes EVERY morning and she usually gets a fruit bar (yum yum) afterwards.
Sometime during the day I cut up an apple into little cubes and try to feed her this... doesn't usually work all the time though.
She's also a fan of baby carrots... she seems to enjoy those for a snack.
I had a hard time getting her to drink any water and she won't drink juice at all... So I bought this Dora the Explorer sippy cup... it was expensive... but she now drinks water more than she used too.
I've also bought fibre cookies which can be found in the pharmacy ... like bowel buddies or some like that. But if you're going to feed her something like that she needs to drink lots of juice or water afterwards to get it moving thru the bowel.
All of that combined she now has better #2's and I've found she eats more when she's not constipated.
Hope all this helps and good luck to you! If all else fails... there is always stool softeners which can be found at your local pharmacy... I have some in the fidge called 'Lansoyl'... it's a jelly based and tastes like raspberries... so littles will take it no problem. Talk to your doctor before giving your daughter any... but it can be bought over the counter and the good thing about it is it doesn't stimulate the bowel so she won't become dependant on it... it's just a softener. My daughter calls this 'yum yums' too...
Again good luck!

I found that when my daughter was on soy milk the constipation stopped. A few things that you can do is to give her more fruits and veggies. Try giving her apple juice, this will help her out, plus let her drink water, not ton of it but a little bit of water every day will help her out. It can get messy but get prunes, from the baby food section. hope this helps you out.

a touch quick nutrients each once in a lengthy time period doesnt damage yet there's no longer something incorrect with a healthful existence-type, its good to start up preparation healthful ingesting from a comfortable age. I dont understand precisely the type of meals you provide her so i cant say no matter if that is the meals making her constipated. attempt some boiled and cooled water and clean fruit juice like orange or apple and culmination. do no longer provide more effective than a pint of milk as this can make her constipated. good success!

What are you feeding her besides the soy milk? Give her some fruit like apples or find out from your physician if you can give her some pure mineral water to help soften her movements.

Do not feed her cereal, bananas or oatmeal as they tend to bind you up.

I have this problem with my son because he eats a lot of cheese. I put Benefiber into his juice or you can mix prune juice and apple juice together that will help.

Have you tried giving her raisins or prunes. Apple juice isn't bad but it is very sugary. When my son was bound up I used the raisins. It worked every time. Applesauce is good too. And as mentioned, water, water, water.

my son had this problem too had to have wysoy formula as he was lactose intolerant (since grown out of it) and was terribly constipated. my health visitor suggested watered down prune juice which he liked (strange child) and it worked.

See your pediatrician. In the meantime, give her banana, oatmeal baby cereal mixed with her formula or water. These may help.

Hope it gets better soon. Good Luck.
