According to the Bible, God lived on Mount Sinai, a physical and visible being. With mountain climbers, preachers placed Him firmly in the clouds. Now, with humans flying about all over the place, preachers tell us He's invisible. What's the deal?

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Heaven was in the sky, then in space and now in another dimension. Yet Jesus could get there by flying in a physical body. It is insanity.

I'm not sure the bible suggest Yahweh lived on Sinai, or just spoke with Moses there.

But in general there is a bit of Ad Hoc reasoning in most religions. It's inevitable in a static belief structure, since reality is fluid (metaphorically).
