I have an 05 4Runner. My manual says to have the mileage guage set on the odometer, not the trip meter. Turn the key to ACC while holding the reset button for 5 seconds. Light should blink, then turn off.
(The MAINT light is a reminder to chane your oil.)

I did that on my 2006 Corolla quite easily. I held down the trip reset button for 10 seconds, put in the key, turned the car on, then let go of the button. A sales associate at Toyota helped me with that one.

You have to go to a shop that has the reset program in their diagnostic machine. They will usually do it for about $10-$20. I would suggest that you just go to your local Toyota dealer.

3 ways
1) disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes.
2) take it to autozone and have them reset it with a diognostic tool.
3) you can disconnect both positive and negative battery cables and touch them together. That empties the ecu memory.

Remove the Negative (black) battery cable- and turn the key to the "ON" position- hat will drain any juice left in the back up ECU!
Then reconnect everything- and turn the key from "ON" to "OFF- 5 times - then start the vehicle!

You could try looking for a small key shaped hole in your gage cluster that's where it was on mine and then you just put it in with anything and then you will have reset it or at least that how it was on my Honda

In a nutshell, you can't. You first have to get the diagnostic code (error or trouble code) and fix the problem. Hope this works out for you!
