OEM speakers were designed to the specs of the sound system in the car. Just replacing the speakers will do one of two things:
1. They'll sound worse because they're either under-compressed for the sound system's capacity, or overcompressed and you won't get the quality at the low amp range.
2. It'll sound different, but not better.
If you want a better sound system, you're going to end up either buying equipment to boost the signal between the current sound system and the speakers, or you'll need to replace the entire system.
Back in the 70s & 80s people would take out their sound system and replace it with an aftermarket sound system because the factory unit was usually a piece of crap, but today, the OEM sound systems are usually better than something you can hobble together from mismatched components.
Unless you're going to dump a boatload of bucks into your sound system, you won't come out better.

it will make a huge differnce. especially for the lows. most stock speakers are made of paper. so needless to say there not the best quality in the world.
eclipse is a good brand, but they make much better head units then anything. oh and there subs are pretty good too. if your looking for sound quality there i'll give you a list of brands you cant buy at Circut City, cause they only sell the lower end cheap crap, ie Polk audio.
Boston Acoustics
Kenwood excelon
Pioneer Premier
MB Quart
Diamond Audio
All of these will really out perform both the speakers you have now, and the speakers at Best Buy or Circut City. you just have to go to a private audio shop to hear them. also your sound will change a lot if you get a amp. when most people think amps they think only for subs. not true. a small 4 channel amp will make a world of differnce in your sound stage.
hope this helps, and good luck.

normally,built-in speakers are not the best.,if you have a Mercedes, porche,Lexus, and other expensive car, OK. but, if it is an average car(i do not tell a cheap car, only a mass produced one) a change of speakers will make a big difference. eclipse, pioneer.warfedale, and many more will be a god choice. new brands? y don't know. many are new names on mass produced speakers. if you want to be at the sure side, buy a known brand. because de car environment, check that they are made from polypropylene, or another synthetic material, and most important, that the surrounding "gummy" is not sponge, but butyl, who looks like plain rubber,demy-bright. ENJOY THE MUSIC!
and don't look to much at how many WATS they are, that is not so important, and don't let the seller convince you that a 4 way is better. believe, a good two way.at the front doors,a twitter,on the sides of the dashboard. and a pair of 6x9 or plain round two way 6" at the rear will give you the best.DRIVE CAREFULLY,PUT THE BELTS AND DON'T USE YOUR CELLPHONE WHEN DRIVING>by my awn bad experience after an accident.

I wouldn't go with eclipse, you should check out Polk brand. They have good response and are of good value. Kevlar cones are awesome. regarding your question: You will notice a huge change!! Factory speakers are cheap, the cone is made of paper, and the magnets are small, the motor structures are flimsy and cant handle the power of aftermarket stereos. Which i assume you have. (If you have a stock radio, don't change the speakers you will burn up the amp trying to drive aftermarket speakers that require more power) anyway, aftermarket speakers are usually injection molded plastic or Kevlar or Kevlar reinforced. the magnets are made from rarer magnetic materials and the motors are built to handle high current and heat. The biggest difference you will notice is much louder you will be able to play your music. The next step is individual amps for component speakers. (separate tweeters, woofers, and cross-overs) You could easily wrap up 10 grand in just speakers and amps, but the sound quality would magnificent!!

in most cases unless you get scratchomatic or some cheppe K-Mart speaker you will notice a difference between a factory installed speaker and lets say a Sony or a pioneer the important thing is to make sure polarity remains the same positive and negative sides of wires and speakers must match or they will sound like crap look at a wiring diagram if u have any question also if there is a felt gasket that comes with new speakers if at all possible install gasket or you will wish that you did (speakers will fart and the like) also sometimes mounting screw holes for factory are not the same as aftermarket so there may be some drilling in your future good luck with your project P.S. take your time removing door panels if you force it you broke it

It will make a big difference. Especially with the newer cars and trucks. I put sony expliods in my 2001 Grand Prix. Of course I had to change the deck a little later on. Because the factory deck would not support a amp. You need to make sure if there is a factory amp also this plays a big role in changing them out.

Aftermarket speakers will most likely require more power, so if you want to get the most out of them, I would suggest a small amplifier. If you just swap out the speakers you are not going to hear much of a difference.

check out www.sounddomain.com, and do a vehicle search for your year and model car. See what everyone esle is running in their car. Then check out reviews on sounddomain, crutchfield, yahoo, and purchase on ebay if you can install urself or have a friend install. You will save possibly 50%. If you want sound quality, try getting components. I like Phoenix Gold products, but u will need a amp to push them. Head units, Clarion Pro Audio, alpine, kenwoods, have good power.

Well, First, hopefully you have a descent amp with some power.. If you don't have that to begin with, your upgrade isn't going to make it sound that much better... Just like any stock radio, they usually don't have much power, or they aren't that good of amplifiers, as in efficient..Some newer cars do have a better quality at least compared to the car radios of yesteryear... I have noticed this myself in the last two vehicles I have owned, which have been 2000 models and above.
