Stale bread is best. Butter enough slices to fill the dish & cut slices into 4 triangles or squares. Grease the dish then put a layer of bread& butter some choc chips & some sugar then repeat until the dish is full. Pour fresh milk over the bread mixture and press mixture down. Make sure milk comes up to the level of the bread. Put in a hot oven about 200-220 deg & bake until golden & crispy on top. Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Aldi do a chocolate Brioche (a sweet bread ) with chocolate chips. I use this for bread and butter pudding. Slice it finely, lay in oven proof dish that you have buttered, whisk 2 eggs in 1 pint of milk or, better still, cream and milk, pour over and bake, gas 5 180c 20-25 mins until browned and set.
Or if you are using up leftover bread, butter bread both sides and spread with Nuttella or something similar. Then follow above for liquid. It will be rich.

Find another name for it. Bread and butter pudding is made from slices of one day old bread, has raisins/currants in it, a sweetened egg and milk/single cream mixture, which might be sprinkled with nutmeg poured over it and absolutely no chocolate chips. It is then baked in the oven.
It's actually a store-cupboard/left-over pud.
Is nothing sacred?

make an egg custard sauce, then butter enough bread to line your dish white or brown bread is fine,
grease the dish with butter and add the buttered bread just one layer, i then add the choc chips and a little demerera sugar all over the bread.
then add another layer of buttered bread and some more brown sugar on the top, once you have the bread in the dish add the custard mix. then oven for about 20/30min on med/high heat it will rise like a balloon cook until golden brown then dust with icing sugar and put under a hot grill until its all melted.
you can if you like add a little nutmeg or Cinnamon if you like also you can use marmalade if you into that stuff
