We've come a long way in our understanding of the universe. Religion is the only thing holding MOST people back. Close that chapter and move on.

The funny thing is, it was the "scientists" who thought that and promoted the idea. How much faith does that give you in scientists? YBIC

Well since the Bible doesnt say the sun is made of coal, it wouldnt have been the religious who believed that, since it would be the scientists that discovered that coal burns a long time, it would be likely it was them who believed that is what the sun was made out of. So really, insulting religion in this question makes no sense.

It is interesting that the bible says the world is a circle, written thousands of years ago. When scientists said the world was flat.
Isaiah 40:22
"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."
The bible doesn't say the sun is coal. What is your point?
Revelation 16:8
"The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was given power to scorch people with fire."

Well, the Bible doesn't say anywhere that the sun is made of coal, so I doubt many religious people believed it.
