I'm not sure of what the answer is b/c i know that i have been outside without a coat thinking that it was not that cold and all of a sudden i ended up sick. My friends think otherwise. They think that you can go out without coats in cold weather and not get sick, and yes they are sick very often so i don't know what they are thinking.

Being outside without a coat in cold weather doesn't cause you to get a cold. Exposure to the cold virus on the surface of public area like door knobs, telephones these are what causes a cold.

I say no. It is stupid because you should wear a coat; who wants to be cold? We have a core body temp of 98.5 so why would be want to be subjected to 20 degree weather? Colds and other illness are caused by viruses. Being cold may reduce your body's ability to fight these viruses, but being outside without a coat does not cause you to have a cold or flu. Hope this helps.

I live in western New York, where it generally gets quite cold. I am amazed at the people who walk around with no coats on. I think it's because they are adapted to it. If you don't feel cold, aren't out for long periods of time just standing, no symptoms of hypothermia, then don't worry about it. Maybe you are just a naturally warmer person.

You get sick from germs. In the winter, you are more likely to get sick from hanging around inside with your sick friends than from going outside without a coat. However, if you get chilled, it might lower your resistance and make you more susceptible to germs, so it could be a contributing factor. But it is the nasty viruses and bacteria, not the cold itself, that make you sick.

Germs do not survive well in cold dry air. People do not catch colds out in cold weather. They get colds inside houses in groups in cold weather.
