Since officers have 4 year degrees, they are older when they join the military. It's just the age. If you looked at the married enlisted at the same age you will see more of them are also married.

Somewhat the culture. A good wife can make or break an officers career. It's always been this way and looks as if it isn't changing. My late ex-mother-in-law was an officers wife and a great entertaining hostess. She threw parties for the brass and other officers and seemed to have a big effect on her husband's career. On the other hand, my step-brother and his dysfunctional wife have struggled. He is a "Mustang Officer" and because of his wife's addiction to prescription medication has been passed over many times I believe due to her embarrassing public behavior.

A woman who has stability and can handle the life can help her man go very far...or, she can take him down quite easily if she so desires.

Human nature tends to see us coupled anyway, being part of something bigger than one seems to be the norm.

Probably because all of us have college degrees and met our wives there.

The LT that works for me isn't married but he's also like 24. I wouldn't push him to get married yet.

It could be an "encouraged component", meaning that once someone is married, they are less likely to committ stupidity. They also may be able to get cheaper insurance rates and other perks not normally available to their civilian counterparts. Its definitely a "good ole' boy" network.

It could be that they are generally older or that married people are considered better officer material, but I'm speculating.

Niether. It is just better and more stable to marry someone you love than to be single forever.
