It seems VA and US of America has deserted its injured veterans again since Vietnam. This is absolutely criminal. These men and women took up the slack for us. I may or not agree with any military excursions in last 25 years, but Christ sakes its horrible to see things haven't changed.
How can it take 5 weeks for 100% disable vet to see Doctor? Why do the spouses of these vets have to fight to get care for their loved ones?
This is pure and simple crap.
The Va intimidates thse veterans and families by claiming they can't do better. Where's our elected officals? Where are we?

I must have missed the first question. If someone is having that much difficulty seeing the doctor, tho, you would think that they would go see another one. The VA would be responsible for paying the doctor's bill, provided the problems were from service related injuries, regardless of where the individual was seen.

Were they trying to use a VA hospital, or a military clinic? Military clinics/hospitals have to, by regulation, take active duty first UNLESS it's a medical emergency. This, apparently wasn't. Where is this place located? Has it been reported to the DAV?

I agree that this situation is intolerable, but without more information...

My Dad is a Vietnam Veteran receiving medical care for exposure. to dioxing and DDT during his tour. He regularly visits Jerry Pettis Memorial VA Hospital in Loma Linda, CA. I have heard horror stories of veterans failing to receive proper care through the VA medical system, but I must admit that VA has been very good to my Dad.

My Dad is fortunate to have my Mom and myself as support to get him through the VA beaurocracy. Many veterans don't have such, and easily end up getting lost in the system. There are numerous Veteran support agencies that will act on the behalf of the veteran to assure they don't becomie a beaurocratic statistic. Such organizations are usually found in the yellow pages or asking the nearest Veteran's Administration office.

Good luck!

I think I have more of a question then an answer. Retired military have an insurance program (called CHAMPIS i think?) are the disabled not enrolled in this program? And instead required to use the VA hospitals? If so, I think that a disabled veteran should be treated like a retired veteran!!

Nope.
I have a cousin that is seriously effected by the exfolients used during Nam. There are avenues to pursue for the care of these people. When you deal with the VA, the noisy wheel gets the oil.
