Because you can't teach them in one day.Everyone, including children, need to be reminded if they have to learn something important which is long - teaching them what is dangerous and what is not is not only "Don't play with fire" and "Don't jump off the window".There are such a lot of things they have to know and if you put all of them in one day,the child may only get confused, nothing more.Of course children have to be let to teach themselves a lot of things alone too because a person learns best from his/her own experience.
And what does it mean to let them go by themselves? As long as they are children,we are their parents and we have to take care of them. When I hear sb to go by himself I imagine that sb lives in his own house, works and earns money and does what he wants.Would you let a child to go in his own house and work?I don't think so.We let them go by themselves as long as they can but as parents we should know the limits.

Because kids are easily persuaded to do the wrong thing, or tempted by a stranger to go with them (Like offering them candy, or telling them that they lost their puppy and need help looking for them) Kids have short memory spans and need to be reminded all the time about dangers. They did a story, I think on 20/20...one of the news shows with parents that have repeatedly talked to their children about gun safety...i.e., not touching them, contact an adult if they find one, etc, and most of the kids on hidden camera, when they came across a gun picked them up.

Aaahhh...the part that parents love the most about being parents are those tough decisions. I believe the answer is we worry no matter what the child is doing, where the child is and how much that child knows better. We want to keep them safe at all times. Unfortunately, with that worry instilled within us, we have to also learn to let go and let them explore the world. We have to make the hard decisions in when to let them and where. It's extremely hard.

here's one thing you got to consider....no matter HOW old you are no matter what dangers there are out there....life is going to get you no matter what. As a parent, (if you are one) you could try to teach your child ALL the dangers in the world but what we're fearful of is, accidents do occur, and we don't want our children getting caught in the middle of it and getting hurt, or getting killed. We want them to be as safe as possible but if life does in fact nip them in the bud, it's not only going to be a learning lesson for them (emotionally and mentally) but one for the parents as well. Parents themselves (including myself) are learning new things everyday because of their kids...there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And concerned parents are the best to have around...'cause at least you know they care about your well being.

I doubt that anyone can teach their child/children about all the possible dangers for even their neighborhood in just one day....too many variables. Also, teaching requires reinforcement and then immediate correction if a mistake is made.

Learning to spot danger and being able to avert it are two different things.

Your child could know karate and judo and be old enough and taught every rule in the book. That's not going to prevent him/her from being abducted, shot at, mugged, sexually assaulted, victim to terrorism or act of nature or anything else.

Let's face it, once you're a parent, you worry about your children's safety and happiness and health, ever day till the day you die...and never more so than in these times, as there is more to worry about than just danger...there is survival too.

You can teach children about danger in one day, but it will take them a lifetime to really learn about it.

you havent been around children have you? or how about watching the news do you do that? i dont think you because CHILDREN DON'T ALWAYS DO WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO! and besides that THERE ARE A LOT OF SICK PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, and no ammount of teaching can protect your child from them, only a responsible adult- and even that's nt fool proof!

Because as a parent, you are not going to expose them unnecessarily to the dangers that await. You can teach your kids about death without killing them, ya know.
