I am completely aware of how terrible Diet Coke is and yet, I am drinking over 5 or 6 a day. I drink one can and then open another within an hour. I am an active person - its not like I am sitting around drinking it out of bordem. I have no other vices - no smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc. However, I am seriously hooked. Its not funny to me - I know that I am poisoning my body. Its an addiction for me, and I can't stop, it seems like its gotten worse over time.

PLEASE let me know if you've been able to wean yourself or kick this habit. Even trying to reduce my intake (with white knuckles), I can try to make it with only two a day - still not healthy.

HELP!

i used to have the same problem. i would drink at least 4 diet cokes a day, and even more if i ate out. when i was trying to cut back, i would drink a bottle of water for every can of diet coke i drank. i cut back to 2 a day, and finally quit. not only did i break my diet coke addiction, but i got into the habit of drinking more water.

I too, am a Diet Coke drinker. It is very addictive, but I wish I knew why. Fortunately, I only really have to have one a day, my morning caffeine fix. And I've started making myself drink hot tea instead, which I also like and has good stuff like antioxidants. I allow myself one diet coke a week, on Saturday mornings after my long run (I'm training for a half marathon) - but...I have been cheating lately because my dad came to visit and left some in my fridge. I'm powerless against it if it's around. I have to make sure there's none in the house. My advice would be just stop buying it and replace it with something else that you like. Or, consider going with regular..although it you're like me, you don't want the calories. But maybe counterbalance them with a workout. Wharever you do, I feel your pain. And you're right, it really is bad for us. It just burns so good first thing in the morning! Weirdly, I don't even like the taste that much, I'm just compelled to drink it anyway. And you don't have to go cold turkey, let yourself have it as a treat once in while. Good luck!

Besides the caffeine addiction, it is still up in the air as to how healthy/unhealthy diet drinks are. I recently read a magazine article that said it was far better to consume several diet drinks a day as opposed to regular sodas or fruit juice. I'm an addict too. You could try water or another fun low-cal drink to grab out of the fridge instead of that dt. coke. I also keep cans of carbonated water (unsweetened) in the fridge. I find that it helps replace a diet soda because it still has the same "texture" so to speak. And you increase your daily water intake. Good luck!

Drink regular coke it is better for you because the aspartame is bad--do a search engine search on dangers of aspartame.
Aspartame contains formaldahyde and it actually has a reverse effect on losing weight. It also can cause anything from temporary blindness to parkinson like symptoms.
I have been addicted to pepsi for 38 years. I am trying to drink fruit juices but always end up needing some pepsi through the day. I have cut back from 60 oz a day to 40.

It's hard at first, but you will feel better. I quit in Afghanistan and got more energy and better sleep.
