If you do a search on ANSWERS you will find answers about Ghd and others. Heres's some of them:
"Ghd's and chi's have problems with breaking after just a year or so. The best 2 (from reviews) are the Sedu and the Solia, you can see this for yourself at folica.com, Because of the bad reviews I would not bother with them too".
"Depends on your hair...I had a perm last year that I tried to straighten w/a straightener & it totally damaged it. I had to constantly condition it & flat iron just to manage it. I finally cut my hair really short this past summer to get rid of all the damaged pieces. Go to a salon & get suggestions. I did but decided to do it on my own...BIG MISTAKE! Good luck!"
''I had to send ghd straighteners back several times! And i didnt have a reciept but they are really really good and send you a new pair back within a couple of days!Which wa good coz i really cant live without them.If you still have the box there should be a little booklet with the address to send them to!The first time i sent them back i had had them for over 2 years and they still replaced them!"
" Basically, the wire frayed on my ghd straightenersand they were sparking! I called them up and explained, they asked me to return them. They sent me a brand new pair and a shampoo & conditioner set. They were really great, and did not quibble at all".
Also do a Google search - "Hair Damage by straighteners" You will find negatives like these:
Straightening may cause split ends and thinning of the hair. It may also make the hair appear damaged and unhealthy after long periods of use. if you use it daily then eventually it will soon become fried with lots of split ends. I think it would be better to re perm. or wait until the perm grows out. Burning your scalp with a straightener can also cause scar tissue to form, which can stop hair growth in that area.

Hi thats not true at all, i work in a hairdressing salon and GHD are easily the best straightener there is on the market. However when you expose your hair to any extreme heat it is possible your hair can be damaged - this is less likely to happen with ghd straighteners compated to copy cat inferior brand.

Ensure you use a good quality heat protection spray when straightening your hair and you will be fine. Try one of the following;

Paul Mitchell Heat Seal

GHD thermodynamics heat protector

If your looking for good deals on GHD check out

http://www.haircareheaven.co.uk

where you can buy the new mark 4 ghd irons in a limited edition leather bag with 5 hair products for £129.99 down from a RRP of £155.

Or the mark 3 ghd's for £84.99 and a free heat proof mat.

GHD's are supposedly really good but if your worried about ruining your hair or leaving them on too long then opt for some slightly cheaper but better ones that are designed for every day use, they also protect your hair. I recommend the new remmington straighten and shine as they have coated plates that protect your hair. They also turn themselves off if you leave them on after a certain time and they come with a protective mat. They heat up to the same temperature as normal GHD's and ive tried many different ones and these are easiest to use.

Hope this is helpful

:)

All straighteners damage your hair to some extent if you think about it! Dont let that put you off though, GHDs really are the best!

I've been using mine for years now every single day (though maybe i shouldnt!) and my hair is still in super shiny excellent soft condition. So don't worry about it, just make sure you use a good quality heat protector and a good shampoo and conditioner to keep you hair nourished and you'll be fine. Go for it you won't regret it!

I easily have a CHI, and that i like it. I easily have under no circumstances heard of a GHD. The Salon i pass to makes use of HAI and CHI, they do a appropriate activity with the two. I have no formal guidance in cosmetology and the CHI works ok at homestead. There are some you may look into. i don't comprehend how accesible the array of them are to you, yet you should purchase particularly some them on line. there's a sparkling kind referred to as Corioliss* (sp). it is bought in kiosks in "extreme end" department stores, even with the undeniable fact that it is meant to be greater useful than the CHI, by way of fact it is Ceramic throughtout, extremely of plated like the CHI. i don't advise ourchasing from Sally's till you're on an honest funds. I pray you detect one you adore. it is a great investment.

Don't ever buy any type of straighteners. They dry up your hair and take out all the natural oils, I don't think Ghd ones will be 2 bad though as they are said 2 be the best.

I got some from Christmas from my husband who told me the girls he works with told him they are bad for your hair too. I use heat protection spray on my hair and it seems fine and I use the straighteners every day. As long as you are careful your hair should be OK. Don't know if you saw Watchdog the other week though? Some GHD straighteners were catching fire - you must unplug them rather than just turn them off.

The Old models had serious safety problems with over heating.

The new ones are supposed to be better. but

1. never leave them plugged in after use..even if switched off as there have been loads of fires

2. Don't use them for more than 10mins at a time.

Actually straightining hair does cause damage as it is quite a brutal thing to do to the hair.
