She's been on soy for over four and half months now and never had any problems. Recently she has developed a persistent diaper rash. The doc said might be bacterial so we tried bacterial cream, yeast cream. Didn't do much. A week later I noticed she had a very subtle rash that looked like prickly heat (almost not noticeable) flat, no texture. Then she came down with a stomach flu, and my husband was also sick a couple of days later (we're not sure if he had food poisoning from sushi though) no one else has been sick. Now the diaper rash is really bad becasue she has had bad poops. She is still recovering from the stomach thing no more throwing up but not eating as much. The doc seems to think the rash is viral and has been treating syptoms as though they are separate...I'm starting to wonder if she has developed an allergy to soy?

It's entirely possible; allergies develop over time, we aren't born with them. You might try Similac Alimentum; it's made for sensitive stomachs. They also make a lactose-free formula now. I'm giving you the link to the Similac website below.

I don't know what you are using for the diaper rash; good old Desenex was always the best thing for us. Try leaving her diaper off as much as possible and exposing her to sunlight. Good luck and best wishes...I know how stressful it is to have a sick baby!

Hmmmmm! That's upsetting for you and a tricky one. I'd suggest you go see a Naturapath or a Homeopathic soon as you are able. They would have something that could help. She had Diarrhea so you need to replenish her mineral salts and electrolytes. Dad will require these salts too if he vomited or Diarrhea. too after his bout, You can get that from the Pharmacy, but just check for your baby due to her young age. Try her on Goats or sheep milk for a change see if she reacts to that. If not then you can be certain it's the soy milk she's sensitive too. Has the Nu ring Assoc. recommended anything?
For her rash place bicarb. Soda in her bath with a guess 1/4 cup. This will ease the rash and take the itch out of it. Zinc supplement. if she's allowed to take it it will help the skin rash ,but if she's unable to have that due to her age. you can still place a zinc cream on her rash. Allow the air to get at it too so it may dry out.
Good luck Ciao

it could be soy or anything she comes in contact with(diaper, body soap, what you clean you bath tube with). allergies test don't always come back conclusive till after 2 years of age. I got a good a idea of what my son's allergies where by staring on streamed diet, rice, chicken and a veggie not more added. after about a week add in other food one at time and see how his body took to it. like milk, dies, wheat, soy, peanut butter, MSG and so on. but your child sounds too young as I'm betting that she only on the bottle. you could try type of formula such as milk. I know that a few years you could get milk or soy. things could have changed good luck and best wishes.

It is possible for children and adults to get an allergy at any given time. My daughter had the same thing, she developed an allergy to all dairy, which excluded soy products as well. we had to put her on rice milk. I would request blood work and they can determine if she has an allergy, i wouldn't mess around with this. My daughter was very ill by the time our doctor found it. good luck. hope she is feeling better soon.

My daughter was allergic to both regular and soy formulas. So with the advise of my daughter's pediatrician and a TRIAL period of a formula called ALIMENTUM she was MUCH BETTER. Ask your pediatrician for a Trial period of this type of formula and see how she does, it isnt going to hurt her but she may not like it. It smells bad but it works, my daughter was on this brand until she was 4 years old that is how badly allergic she was.You will have to gradually mix it in with the other formula until she is on all ALIMENTUM or NUTRAMIGEN whichever your pediatrician decides. My daughter tried Nutramigen but it did not work as well as the ALIMENTUM.P.S. my daughter will be 13 years old this Oct 6th.

You can develop an allergy to anything. Most allergies are actually developed over time and exposure.
