I don't know about kingpin but St John was love by Jesus and that was because he was the one that honored what Jesus said more than the others and it was him that Jesus told to take care of his mother. It was also told to Peter by Jesus what is it to thee if he tarry till I come.
I myself do take what St John wrote as true gospel more than any other.

Actually John was not the one to do all the baptisms. The other disciples did as well. Acts chapter 8 has the Apostle Peter teaching and then later baptising an Ethiopian Eunuch, for instance. and Jesus very last command to his apostles before ascending to heaven was to "Go therefore and make disciples... BAPTIZING them ..." (Matthew 28:19,20)

In addition the scipture you refer to where John said the word was with God (John 1:1) was written by the APOSTLE John, not John the Baptiser, who was beheaded before Jesus' death.

Finally, the issue who of who was greater among the disciples came up a number of times among them. Two of them even got their mother to ask Jesus to pick them as the greatest and to sit at his left and right hand. One of these arguments was the reason Jesus washed the feet of his apostles. To teach them humility.

I hope that helps.

I think it's possible that you are confusing John the Baptist with John the beloved disciple. Certainly the latter was much loved by Jesus and was one of the inner circle whom Jesus trusted.

Jesus put Peter ahead of all of his followers when he told him that he was the rock upon which Jesus would build His church.
