yes - but only if you are connecting hdmi to hdmi equipment. if you use hdmi to dvi adapters or are hooking up hdmi to dvi then no.

The HDMI cable carries sound and video. No need for rca cables. TIP: It is not necessary to buy an expensive HDMI cable. You can find good 3 and 6 foot HDMI cables for less than $10.

Be advised, because everything is digital in HDMI, it also give the big media companies the ability to embed copy protection (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection otherwise known as HDCP) into devices. A big deal was made about this when it first came out, but consumer interest died down.

In fact there are new recievers on the market that have HDMI sound inputs!
