I'd just like to point out to people in England that you usually only have to go as far as your local supermarket car park to be able to recycle glass, cans, papers and plastic bottles - so if the council don't provide adequate facilities don't use it as an excuse not to recycle. We can't afford not to recycle our waste (although we really need to reduce the amount we produce in the first place).

It takes some effort is my guess. Some see it as easier to just chuck things in the trash than to wash, sort, bundle and separate recyclables. A lack of bottle/can deposits (in some areas) is a drawback as well. No motivation for some, lack of looking at the big picture for others.
I believe that most people want to do the right thing, but take the easy route.

In the place that I live (Asia), people do not have a recycling bin outside their house or anyone to collect the stuff for recycling. If they want to save the earth & recycle, they would have to bring all the stuff to allocated places where there are recycling bins to drop them... these places are mostly far away from our homes; thus making it more convenient to just throw it away as trash in their bins (outside their houses or downstairs), than to carry it to the recycling bins.

The council here gave us a green box for glass, paper and cans. All you have to do is put it out with your wheelie bin, but there have been so many complaining letters in our local paper about it. You wouldn't believe how many people's attitiude is "why should WE have to sort our rubbish - why can't the council do it?" Another complaint is, "we always just used to put all our rubbish in the landfill site, why can't we just carry on doing that?" It's just plain laziness, ignorance and lack of concern for the environment.
Hopefully future generations will be better as they've been brought up used to recycling.

Most people don't recycle because they are lazy and just don't care. But some communities don't have the resources to recycle so it is not encouraged to do so.

I do however. The way they are doing it is stupid. In my Area we have Green Bin for left over food Brown bin for Garden Rubbish
Recycling 1 small box, 1 bag.It would make more sense for a big family or even 2 people
The green or brown bin should be for recycling. Then theres a bag for papers which end up getting blown all over by the recycle people who empty them,My garden gets covered in papers so ask them.

I do not recycle. Where I am, I have to pay EXTRA to have recycled items picked up in my regular garbage. If I was not charged extra, then I would recycle.

I do personally, but some people don't because it isn't offered in their area. Thats actually pretty common. As well, those that don't have it offered in their area also usually don't have recycling centers anywhere near them.
