First of all ....thank you for the honest answers from real heroes who have been here in Iraq or understand what it is Halliburton/KBR does....I actually work for them and of course, after a 12 hour 7 days a week shift, I sometimes have time to write in to here about travel questions when I get time off every 4 months, for some reason I typed in KBR and found this ignorant question, well, as some have said, this company was able to step in and do the job, granted there are some flaws, but in actuality, contractors save billions of taxpayers dollars for providing services that would take years of training soldiers to do similar jobs, plus have to pay GI bills, full medical, retirement, and all the other benefits soldiers receive. They are entitled to it no doubt, but when the pressure was on and they needed trained volunteers from the public, KBR was able to step up and meet those demands despite a huge turnover. FYI, most employees are ex military, in their 40's and 50's (young people don't want to work long hours and don't last, or are scared at first mortar attack, hell, a whole plane of potential employees(360) refused to leave the plane at BIAP when mortars started falling on the runway..couldn't blame them, and they were given the option of leaving, but they were unarmed volunteers!) I actually have met the local Iraqi people, who are farmers for the most part, and truly believe that this will all be worth it. I hope I can come visit them in peace time and see the archeology that this country has and hope to offer Ahmed a tour of my home country some day, now that he is free of Sodamn Insane's rath and may have that choice. You can rant about oil. You can rant about WMD's. You can rant.....because ...you live in a free country where you can have that right....by the way.....THANK A VET FOR THAT!! More than 80 or more KBR employees have died so far and you can thank them also. And if you are in Iraq now, could you please run towards the nearest coalition post and yell "Allah Akbah" as loud as you can...... and do us all a favor!

They are not stealing. Our government askes them to perform a job, and they do exactly that. It is a fact that it is cheaper to send a contractor than it is to send military personell. It has been this way for the past 25 years. I wonder why just now people are realizing that there are contractors embedded with troops everywhere they go? I suppose its because the media has access to so much these days. But suffice to say, they pretty much have always been with us..
BTW, 8 trillion in debt is a good thing, considering how much tax revenue that we take in is. The debt, comes from countries and people purchasing bonds. Countries like China and Saudi Arabia are financing our war by purchasing these bonds. There are strict terms on how and when they may be redeemed. They will not impact our economy. National deficit on the other hand isn't as good a thing. And the current administration has allready cut the deficit by 1/3 from the previous administration. And if left alone, it will be cut in half in another 4 years or so..

You have obviously never been to Iraq to see and understand the logistical demands placed on KBR/Halliburton. I worked for a different DoD contractor in Iraq for 18 months but dealt with KBR almost daily and with the US army everyday. While not a big fan of how they did somethings they have accepted a massive undertaking and been highly successful.
How can you legally steal? Buy a dictionary.

"Rich USA" as you put it is the center-hold for the worlds economy. We could be 100 trillion in debt and the world economy would still crash if we were to drop from it.
8 Trillion is recoverable. 50 Trillion is recoverable. What isn't recoverable is Social programs that burn money to people who don't want to work. Why not attack that instead of the Deficit.
KBR and HB are the ONLY two contractors that could handle the mission in Iraq. Yes, there were others and they dropped out when they could not meet the demands set by our ground commanders. Our location went without hot food for three months because the contractor we had couldn't keep up with demand.
You call the Republicans "Evil" yet the majority of the Soldiers that defend your butt are Republican...glad to see you don't support our troops.

Ok folks I am an electrical contractor. I know the bidding process that goes into construction on all levels. So I ask you "educated know-it-alls" how on earth do you put out for bid the rebuilding of a nation's electrical, gas, water, and transportation infrastructure neglected and or destroyed since 1991 and before?
Are the people in Iraq supposed to sit in the dark, go without electricity, telephones, gas and water while we put out for bid the reconstruction? If so, who in the f*7%k is going to bid it on it?
Joe's heating and plumbing?
Do you know how many companies are large enough and have the resources to accomplish a task like this:
It is either Haliburton and Bechtel. That is pretty much it unless you want the Russians or the Chinese to do it.
As of 2003, 41 employees of Haliburton have been killed.
You people should face FACTS which you have none of and stop reading Democrat or conspiracy blogs.

Considering that they're a private company in a cost-plus contract with the US government, they are entitled to make a profit. This isn't a dictatorship, it's a free-market capitalist republic.
They also made a lot of money when Clinton gave them no-bid contracts, too.
The fact is, that due to the (unnecessarily) controversial nature and sensitivity of the War on Terror, there was sufficient reason to retain a US company for this effort. Halliburton is the only US company that can do what it does on this scale. A foreign company might have presented security risks.
Your hysterical swooning over nothing says more about your lack of understanding than anything else. I won't even get into the juvenile attacks on the GOP.
Lastly, what does your non-sequiter about national debt have to do with your question? It indicates a certain "squirreliness" of thought.

Here we go again, Halliburton BAD, KBR Bad, Bush BAD!
Pfft!!!
Remember, our economy shores the economies of nearly every other country on Earth. WTF do you think would happen If we stop buying stuff?
Consider that 80% of all the consumer products used in the US come from foreign nations, such as China, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, the UK, Singapore and elsewhere; what would happen if we stop buying Chinese made Motorola cellphones, Japanese made Hondas, Nike shoes made in Indonesia and German made BMWs?
The global economy would suffer. Get it straight, dumbass. If the US economy collapses, the repercutions are global. Every time there's a hiccup in Wall Street, the hiccup is felt in nearly all other economical centers.
JACKASS!

The reason Haliburton gets those contracts is because they deliver the goods - on time, every time.
They are expensive - but you can count on them to do it fast and to do it right, every time.
I remember listening to people complain about how Haliburton got the emergency contracts for Katrina Relief. They did not care anything about getting food and shelter to the people displaced by the hurricane - they just wanted to bash Haliburton.
If you want it done cheap you go with 'Lo-Bid Incorporated.' If you want it done fast and correctly - you call Haliburton.

On MSNBC last night they said how much Halliburton has profited and I think it was 8 billion. That's BILLION folks.
I guess that's enough to buy everyone in the legislative branch of the government huh? It sure explains why Bush hasn't been impeached and why Chaney (and that's a deliberate misspelling - he is a monster in the worse sense of the word), is still running the government.
