i'm flying to Vegas in August, for a friends wedding and am considering taking advantage that i work in the travel industry by booking a standby flight, to save somey. However, i'm worried that as August is a summer month the flights might be full and i'll be stuck waiting in an airport lounge for days waiting to either fly out there or fly back! Has anyone here flown to Vegas in August, and if so - can you tell me how full the flight was? if i was flying to New York i wouldn't be so worried as there are so many flights there a day with some airlines, and they fly direct. But to Vegas there are only so many flights, and they aren't all direct - so if they are full i could get stuck in a connecting city, like Philadelphia or somewhere! I plan to go there for 6 days, but have taken 2wks off work. Any info/advice would be much appreciated! (and sorry this question is so long!)

You shouldn't have any problem flying into and out of Vegas in August..If you booked in advance you shouldn't have any problem with flight being full. I've been on a flight that was over booked to Vegas. My originating flight was late going in to Midway and I was late getting to the gate...There were a lot of people waiting to board, but then I heard the announcement, saying that the plane was over booked and that we would have to wait and standby....But, I was lucky, I had a confirmed ticket for a connecting flight and did not have to standby....a lot of people were not happy....Buy your ticket now and you'll be okay, don't worry so much and have fun....

I wouldn't worry about it. Las Vegas is one of the last places in America people would want to visit in August. Las Vegas in August is HOT!!! as in 110+ F
So if you want a nice comfortable ride into Mc Carran book a flight that get you in before 10:00 a.m. After that the combination of the heat rising off the desert and the orographic lift generated by mountains will give you a roller - coaster ride on both landing and take off.
Have fun and enjoy the flight.

I wouldn't do the stand by thing. Every flight I have taken to Vegas in August was packed, with this summer being no exception. I fly out of Long Island, smaller airport, maybe that poses the problem? All I know is next time, I swore I'd spend the x-tra cash, to put my a-s in 1st class(something you may consider w/ your discount). Between the screaming kids, 1st timer teens, and old man whiskey breath practically in my lap, not a pretty flight. Less stress crapping $ away @ black jack! **All though my friends got a kick out of it, but that's not saying much, since they were already drunk before we took off!

If you are making flight reservations now, you won't have a problem. Do tell you travel agent how many people are going and all so they can make the best accomodations for you. I didnt go to Vegas in August but I went in mid-July. No problems at all. You shouldn't have anything to worry about

August and July are probably the LEAST busy months if Vegas do to the heat. So that would be the best time to try to get an agent discount.

This far ahead you would find fairly cheap tickets if youre booking right now or at the earliest possible moment. I would recomend you to book a tourist class lowest fare ticket instead. As for your question, look out for if there is a american holidey that weekend youre flying (like labour day) then except fully booked aircrafts. Johan
