I've been exercising since Monday evening doing 20 press-ups, 60 sit-ups and 20 laps running around my pool which is 10metres by 4metres, and today Wednesday I'm feeling sore, I'm worried that tonight I'll be too sore to exercise, I don't normally exercise and the reason I've started is because I would like to tone up. Am I doing maybe a little too much? or is this sore thing a sign that it's working well?

Sore is all ways a good sign. I would make sure that you stretch before and especially after each workout. Also drink a lot of water (upwards of a liter or more) each work out. This will help with the soreness. Worse case senario, take a few ibuprophen (motrin, advil) as needed.

You might be overdoing it a bit at present. If you get real uncomfortable, it's a sign you need to back off. No matter what the jocks say, "no pain no gain" is a stupid approach. Pain means you're doing harm to yourself. The achy tired feeling one normally experiences after a bout of exercise is perfectly normal, but pain is quite another thing.
Don't skip exercise entirely, but back off a touch for two or three days. Cut it to ten press-ups, 40 sit-ups and ten laps around the pool - and slow down those laps; you ain't racing a clock, right?
Then as your body adapts and the pains fall away, gradually work your way back to your current numbers and give yourself a couple weeks before you *gently* increase any of 'em. Remember, if you're gonna run a marathon, you prep for it for a year if you're already in good shape - but you don't start that year with a 26-mile run! Work your way to that level gradually...

Being sore is a good thing when you begin training. Your muscles are just responding to new activity. I would take a day or two off to recover. Recovering and rest are the most important things when training. After a couple weeks you shouldn't feel anything unless you start lifting. Then you'll be sore, but you will eventually be fine. Just listen to how your body is and don't over do anything, but don't give up!!

Take a break. Listen to your body. Since your doing an little full body workout you want to give it a chance to heal. That doesn't mean pushing through a little soreness though.

Also, take care with your running. Circling a pool might be a little dangerous.

IT's working if you are sore. You might want to change your routine though. Try walking instead of swimming 2 nights a week. Change it up. It'll keep everything exciting. Take tonight off and relax. If you are commited to toning up, you will get back into it on thursday.

Nope keep working it!!! Your muscles are producing Lactic acid *sp? Take an epsom salt bath in hot water after each work out and it takes it out of your system!! make sure you don't use bubble bath or soaps in the bath as the salts will neutralize. Good for you!!!!

You should be fine, you may feel a little sore the first few days but after awhile you will be fine.
