If you have proof for something, you cannot believe it on faith. Believing something on faith means believing it despite a lack of evidence (or proof).
All of the Christians who insist that they have evidence or even proof for the existence of god are denying the importance of faith. I think they do it because they recognize that faith is personal, and can't be used to bludgeon others, and their main motivation for being Christians is their desire to bludgeon others.
I respect the Christians who come here admitting that they have no evidence and that they believe solely on the basis of faith. I still think they're wrong, but their hearts are pure, and I do wish that we nonbelievers would stop denigrating faith.

Faith is just a belief in something..such as "I have faith that without food i will starve to death" or "I have faith that gravity will keep me from flying off the planet".
Religion, in all its forms, likes to steal words from any language and say "these belong to us and no one else now" which makes religions thieves. It "stole" faith and tells people faith means a religious belief in God without proof..this is wrong and a lie.
You can have proof and faith at same time and faith tends to be stronger with proof if you go by the actual meaning of the words.
If you go by philosophy then yes you still can...I have faith my parents love me and it is even stronger because I have proof they do thru their actions and words.

Faith is only necessary in the abscence of knowledge. Proof makes faith obsolete. People who claim to know things through faith are caught in a blatant contradiction of terms.

No. If there is proof there is no need for faith. Faith is when you can't prove something but choose to have faith in it nevertheless.

Faith is belief in the absence of proof. One precludes the other.
Once God personally knocks on your door, changes your Evian into cabernet sauvignon and brings your Pekingese back from the dead, you no longer have faith in God. You know he's there.
Absent such proof, one must turn to the philosopher Michael who aptly if unsuccinctly said, "I gotta have faith, yes I've gotta have faith, faith, faith, gotta have faith, faith, faith."

It is easier to believe in God that put your faith in Him. Faith is important. It is hard to please God without faith.
Everything cannot have 100% proof, your faith has to start form somewhere. That is the same for believers and non-believers.

I have proof that my family exist, but I also have faith in them that they will be there for me if I come across tough times.
Put your faith where it needs to be: God, family, country, true friends.

If you're driving your car and up ahead the traffic light turns green, do you stop at the intersection anyway to make 100% sure that the traffic that has the red light has stopped? Or do you, on faith, continue on your trip?
Jesus said, "Blessed is he who has not seen, but believes."

Faith is belief in something you know, intellectually, can't possibly be true. Once something is proved, it becomes fact. Faith is not fact. Faith is personal, facts are something everyone can see.
