The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.

Don't know if this helps but couldn't you search online for a review site for them? I know of a forum in www.pricerunner.co.uk that has a TV section so it might be worth posting in there. Plus, once you've decided you can use pricerunner again to find the best price for it!

If you have any particular models in mind, search for a user's review of them (maybe on Amazon even).

I too have a similar future purchase in mind and recently I did a price search for a Sony Bravia one for a friend. It seemed a really good spec (although she only wanted a 26 inch one) but they obviously do bigger. It had 5 out of 5 stars in every review I read of it. AND you can get it at least £150 cheaper online than from the Sony shop. So if you like the sound of the Sony Bravia, visit a Sony shop for all the info, choose which model you want, thank them for their time and say you'll have to think about it ....and go buy online.

I do it with everything else! I've also heard good things about Toshiba, Panasonic...........and if you're a QVC viewer, check out their website too. If not, have a look at qvcuk.com - check their schedule for Sound & Vision or just email them asking if any TVs coming up. At least they demonstrate it, you can phone in or email questions and the best......buy it and you get to try it at home for 30 days and then send it back no questions asked for a full refund (except p&p and you need to consider how much it would cost you postage wise to return it).

Not sure this helped but good luck....

PS - I've just found this other question/answer on here. Go there and scroll down to Batz? (Baz)??....maybe you two should get together!

The two that Which rate are Pioneer and Panasonic, in that order. Sorry I don't have model numbers for you but they change all the time. I would be very happy with either and also Sony.
Avoid those non name brands that you have never heard of. And if you buy from a reputable company like John Lewis, any problems will be sorted out with the minimum of fuss. Unlike the company that has the same name as what you have on a Saturday night after 10 pints. My mate bought washing machine, telly, and fridges freezer, all have gone wally. And Chapatti's don't want to know.

the shop assistants will bamboozle you.

Whay would anyone want to spend 1200 pounds on a Television?

The whole subject is being made deliberately confusing just now and everyone's rushing to buy "HD ready" stuff they probably don't need. I'd advise you to wait a while.

Only Sky will be offering HD TV in the forseeable future.

First of all read up on the pro`s and cons of Plasma v LCD and make up your mind which type to go for.
Having desided go to a lage outlet where you can see several of your choice on display, and see what picture you prefer.
Generally if you want Plasma, Panasonic is about the best, I chose LCD and went for Sony (which I am pleased with).
Also check to see if you can get a free warranty for five years as they are both expensive to repair.
