Let’s think hard here from a nutritional standpoint. (I don’t mean to sound abrasive). An eleven year old girl has years and years ahead of her to lose weight; so why start to diet when you’re at a peak phase of the adolescent growth curve?. Dieting later in life will affect her bodyweight. Dieting now will affect her hormones, body and bone structure, and lay a poor nutritional foundation for the rest of her years. Encourage the girl to eat right? Yes. But dieting before 20-23 yrs old (medically speaking, not socially) is not a good thing to do. Hope this helps a little for you.

It depends on the reasons for the diet. I'm not sure an eleven year old girl needs to learn how to "diet"...especially not the reasons people diet now a days. While it is understood that the eleven year old may not be anything like myself, I learned at age 10 how to diet and all the wrong reasons for dieting such as to lose weight... learning at such an age gave me the impression it was wrong to have any meat on my body which then gave me some truly unhealthy eating habits (eating disorders). While now I have learned that the only true reason to diet is to live a healthier life. All I could recomend would be to teach her to eat a healthier diet...a lot of fruits and vegetables, refrain from fried food, and refrain from foods that have no nutritional value. For me, I became a vegetarian at a young age to help me stay diciplined with eating fruits and vegies and non-fried/greasy foods such as fast food burgers and chicken. Since then I have maintained a healthier weight while my diet is also healthy. My diet helps me stay thin, NOT- I diet to get thin.... Dieting should be a noun, not a verb. Hope that helps.

That's too young to diet; you're still growing and developing and fooling around with diets, especially the fad diets that turn up in so many of the magazines aimed at young people, can result in permanent disability!
On the other hand, now is the perfect time to learn to eat healthy. There are written materials out there that can teach you about nutrition, about how to balance your food intake so that you get an adequate amount of all the four food groups, and the best methods of preparation.
You don't have to go vegetarian to be healthy, but you do need to control the amount and types of meat you consume. The problem with vegetarian diets is that they don't take into account the very different needs of a growing child versus a mature adult's needs.
And the thing that puts off so many young folks is as important as is eating the right foods - exercise. You can eat the best foods in the world and in the right amounts, but without exercise, you might as well pig out on all the fattiest, sugar-loaded, unhealthy food you can get your hands on. A proper diet is worthless without plenty of exercise...so get off the couch, turn off the t.v. and put down your electronic joysticks and go play volleyball, tennis, basketball...these as opposed to contact sports 'cause those are more likely to hurt ya at your age and the first three also serve an important role in your social development.
Hope I haven't put you to sleep; that's a lot and it sounds like preaching. But if you can get this far, you have gotten the best advice available. Good luck!

an eleven year old probably should not be dieting!!!! growing kids need plenty of GOOD nutrition to develop and grow properly. If weight is an issue just cut out refined sugar and starchy foods like white bread and chips, eat whole grains, lean meats, and plenty of veggies and fruits, no pop either , pop is just wasted empty calories. Also make sure to serve skim milk or low fat yogurt, growing bones need calcium!

I put my 9 year old on a diet and she isn't even aware of it, I just cut out the the fatty things like chips, mayo, cookies and cakes and replaced them with healthier alternatives and she doesn't even notice the difference.I don't want her to focus on the weight because that can start eating disorders later. I also give her lots of fruit and vegetables.

Just go and live your life. Stop thinking about dieting. Exercise for fun and not to spend calories. Dieting is the best way to be overweight

Eleven year old girls don't diet. Forget about it. Unless your huge, which isn't the case.

Sounds too skinny already. My 10 yr old is small and petite and weighs more than that. Young girls shouldn't diet any way, it affects their development.

No, unless she is OBESE.
But 40kg doesn't sound obese to me. Dieting at such a young age can affect growth during puberty.

To safely do it, see a doctor. Dieting at that age can be very dangerous.
