We adopted an adorable little black and white kitten that looks just like Sylvester. She appears to be around 5 to 6 months old, and even though we found her abandoned outside she knew to use the litter box. She is very affectionate and gets along fine with our other two female cats. We are going to get her fixed. We have given her two baths since we brought her in three weeks ago. The first time was to make sure there were no fleas or critters coming in with her. The second time was just a day or two later when we noticed that she smelled of poopie. We know she is using the litter box. She appears to keep her coat very clean. Could there be some health reason that she has this constant odor? She eats both dry and moist food? She is so pretty but her name is gonna be "Stinky" if we cant figure this out. Please, any ideas?

There could be a number of reasons for this problem.
All four of our cats have been rescued, but we had a real odor problem with the third one.

Have you checked her ears for mites?
She could have ear mites or even a yeast infection in her ears, I'm not sure if the mites would cause an odor but I know first hand that the yeast build up will...our rescue with the odor problem had yeast in her ears.

Also check her teeth she could have a bad tooth that is causing the problem...that was another problem our rescue had, she ate just fine so I never thought of her teeth, but sure enough one of her back teeth had become badly infected and it smelled awful.

Maybe the food she's eating just doesn't agree with her and it's giving her gas, believe me that will smell very bad.

Since she's so small she may not be cleaning herself properly which is something she'll get better at as she gets older.

Also like others have said it may be an anal gland problem.

Bless you for taking this baby in and hopefully the Vet will be able to confirm where the odor is coming from and take care of if.

Do you only have 1 litterbox? You should have at least 2 or better 3. He may not like to share boxes. Some cats are picky about thier boxes. I'd try getting another box and perhaps a different type of litter. He may not like the substrate in his box. A trip to the vet is never unwarranted and a check for a urininary tract infection couldn't hurt. Also if he is still intact, getting him neutered may help as well. He may be marking. If nothing else neutered cat urine is much less foul smelling than intact male cat urine. If he's already neutered, my suspicions lie heavily that he needs another box or two to make him happy.

Most of my kittens had a smell to them. A stink It will go away. It's just like a baby. They have their own smell. But i promise it will go away. I have 7 cats. And when they were kittens they smelled funny. So the others would actually pin the kitten down and clean it. Kittens dont clean them selves much. They have too much to do like get into trouble. But feed her science diet food. it's soo good for their coat, teeth and mataines a seady weight for them. Too, if she was an out door cat, they don't eat well. And when they poop it may be runny and get on them and that's why they smell. When you get them to eat well for a bit it will go away. They will poop normal.

Small kittens aren't very good at cleaning themselves. I had a kitten who was a mess and stunk, too. As he got older, he got better at it. But to be on the safe side, I'd call your vet and make sure something else isn't wrong.

Perhaps it's an anal gland problem. If so you will need to take her to the vet and let them deal with it ( it shouldn't be too expensive/take too long) I hope the kitty gets better soon. It's awesome you adopted a cat!

It could be her anal gland. Get the Vet to squeeze it out for you (gunk builds up inside it instead of being excreted). It won't cost you more than a consultation.
