Can speed camera Vans Park on a grass verge? The road is not marked with any lines but it is in a residential area with no room for parking on the roadside. Also do speed camera vans have to be parked on the same side of the road as the traffic they are detecting?

Where I live they were not allowed to park there in the past but legislation was changed to allow that. If you see them be as big of a nuisance as possible without getting a ticket.
If I see them flashing I usually have some fun flashing my highlights towards them, however the greatest obstruction I ever saw was done by a trucker near to where I live. I was actually driving in the opposite direction so I saw the pigs standing on a parking lot facing a busy road now in front of this private parking there's a long strip in between the parking and the road. As the truck driver saw them at work he decided to pull over and totally obstruct their view as I passed them I could clearly see how the truck driver was making fun of them.
When I passed there again 10 minutes later the truck was still there but the fuzz had gone.

Wherever These camera van`s park they must be clearly visable by the motorist , they can no longer be " hidden " they must set up the camera alongside / to the front / or at the rear of their vehicle they can not park , say up an alleyway and then have the camera on the road by it`s self they must be with it !
I suggest that if you suspect that if the van is hidden , take photograph`s of the site ( not the officer ) ( i will explain why in a minute ) get clear shot`s of the camera on it`s own without the van alongside it and take pictures of the view a motorist would have of the camera ! i would then ring up the local press and give them the picture`s and also report him to the council & highway`s commision , and tell them you have the pictures to proove he was hidden .
If while you are taking the photo`s the enforcement officer approaches you ( he is not a police officer ) and ask`s you not to take photo`s of him ( it is illegal to take picture`s of people without their consent ) Tell him that you are not taking photo`s of him, but actually of the situation of the camera the location of his van & the view motorist`s will get of the camera by the roadside !
Tell him you will be reporting your finding`s to the press and to the local council ( take down time`s & date`s )( the press may publish these and any one who got a ticket may get it over turned )

Yes to verges - NO to same side.

Provision is made because of 'safety' reasons that allows them to park where the hell they like....

They have to monitor the traffic withing a clear line of sight - so no bushes, fences etc. So long as they can target the car for a couple of seconds it's admissable as 'evidence'.

Providing they do not obstruct the flow of traffic, park dangerously or infringe parking regulations (yellow lines, etc.) the bu**ers can park anywhere.

They can get you going in either direction, too...

any direction, parked within the laws so not to break the law also they must be parked within 1 mile of the nearest warning sign for speed cameras.

Your ex-police officer friend is incorrect. The van does not have to be labeled at all. There are a lot of unmarked police vehicles throughout the police department, especially traffic units.

if you get caught by one then fight it as you can walk away.
fact one you can use in-admissable evidence in court as you are entitled to ur rights which have not been read and your being forced to admit to something which is breaking the law.
plus dont know if you know this but a civilian can not deem you of speeding only a police officer can. the vans are driven by civies!.
theres a web site for this and they can help you fight it. look at this link.
