Allow me to suggest to you to visit Volunteer Match. They have quite a long listing of volunteer organizations, not only in the USA and Canada, but worldwide.

You could volunteer to serve in your hometown, in your state, any other state, in a foreign country, or even serve as an online volunteer.

The link to their site is below. If you have any question, feel free to e-mail me. (Beware that if you use Yahoo Answer profile, and your e-mail is not validated, Yahoo will not allow the reply to your message. So, include your e-mail address at the end of the message, so I can reply to you).

We need more information.
What do you like doing?
Where do you want to volunteer?
How much time do you want to spend on volunteering?
What type of people would you like to volunteer with?
Do you have a faith preference?
All of these should be answered to fit you into the correct NGO.

Most NGOs are worldwide and have specific pops or issues that they concentrate on.
