Starches in moderation as part of a well-balanced diet are not bad. Starches are complex carbohydrates that your body has to break down before they can be used. Because they are not immediately available as energy, they can leave you feeling satisfied after a meal.

However, they will increase your blood sugar levels once they are broken down. If you are diebetic, talk with a dietician or your doctor about when and how much you should eat. If you are not, then just watch the calories and portion sizes that you would for other foods.
