Why would a non-Christian / non-Muslim 'hate' Jesus? Isn't that a bizarre implication? Either you're a Christian or Muslim and you love the guy or you're not and you're indifferent towards him.

What does it mean to call someone a 'Jesus-hater'?

A Jesus-hater is the stock response to anyone who doesn't take Jesus so very, very seriously as the responder does. You either fetishize him, or you hate him. They take your non-acceptance of Jesus's dvinity as a personal insult. That world is very black and white.

Personally, I admire Jesus very much. I mean, the real man, the humble carpenter who did what he could to shake off the complacency of the Jews in occupied Judea and to spread a message of love, and paid for it with his life. I think of him as a first century Che Guevara. It's a pity a few more Christians don't admire the same Jesus I do.

But no, no-one with any sense actually "hates" Jesus.

No. It's beyond bizarre. I guess those who don't believe in Zeus, or disagree with any religion related to him, they hate him? That's the logic that is being used here.

Personally, I believe the man, Jesus, existed and was a great teacher. But that is really as far as my belief goes with Jesus. I'm a Pagan... one who disagrees with how many Christians use their religion against others (this is a prime example of that).

What does it mean to call someone a "Jesus-hater".... it means the person is using an emotional tactic to get the Non to engage in a battle of words. It's lame. It's ignorant. And, to me, it shows the person calling others "Jesus-hater" do not interact with people who are not in their little group... and they probably don't know how to interact either.

Hmmm. I'm guessing here, but I'd say things like using His name in vain (sort of like Jerry Seinfeld says "Newman!"). You wouldn't really use the name of someone you loved or even were indifferent to as a curse word, right?

General disdain for His teachings would probably also count.

I've never called anyone a "Jesus-hater," so I'm not positive.

Well, I'm positive as a person, but I'm not sure about the "Jesus-hater" thing.... ;o)

You have a point. Maybe out of anger, a person will say he hates Jesus. It could be that he was being pestered to take up Jesus as his God. That's why Confucius say, man's nature is kindness in the beginning. All religions also teach their followers to do charity and be kind to other people. People would generally not hate Jesus until they are cornered or snookered or forced to believe him as Lord and Saviour. What about Satan. I don't think he hates Jesus and neither is Jesus hating Satan. They just do their works. One to lead people to God and heaven and the other people to join him in hell.

I don't "hate" Jesus. He was a Jewish guy who had a really tough time and was tortured to death like many other Jews. However, I hate basically everything that has been done in his name. The religion that has been formed in the name of this man is intolerant and teaches moral superiority. The fact that Christians believe that theirs is the only path to God devalues anyone else, and leads to conflict and bigotry.

I used to work with a guy called Jesus. He was a right royal pain in the posterior. Hate him? No. But if I'd been forced to spend a little longer with him I can imagine I would have.

Blame the guys that keeps saying "believe Jesus or go to hell".
Very demanding and annoying.
Really changes the view of Christianity.

I have no idea. I guess if you don't believe in Jesus, and aren't a Christian you hate them, Jesus included. Maybe the person who called you that is really self absorbed and thinks that if you don't believe, you hate them and what they stand for. I have no idea.

It's just another label the Christians like to put on people. It's impossible to hate someone you've never met, and we atheists can't hate someone who doesn't exist. You've been listening to too much right-wing radio. Supposedly those of us who profess no supernatural beliefs are less than good Americans, and "Jesus-hater" is a nice, catchy label. It's also a large crock of horsesh*t. But, if that's what the religionists need to feel better about themselves, go for it.

I'm neither Christian nor Muslim, and I'm still quite partial to the guy.

And to the first poster: He's talking about how mankind looks at Jesus, not how Jesus looks at mankind.
